Today when i was sitting in my pathetically boring mechanics engg. class wondering what am i doing here ….. this is not where i should be ,the words of the legendry writer Robert Frost just came to my mind …. as he said in his famous poem “Two Tramps in Mud time”:

“My object in living is to unite My avocation and my vocation
As my two eyes make one in sight.”

Frankly speaking i never wanted to be an engineer ….. but neways …… as luck would have it ……. i am here . However today i would like to tell u guys fresh out of school that today we have got so so so many options apart from the regular and boring engineering and medical ………………. and yes EVEN If you don’t excel in academics, a sport or an extracurricular activity – it may be hard to discover the work you love. And even if you do get labelled as the …

  • sports jock
  • math whiz
  • lead singer or actor
  • science nerd/genius
  • budding poet or artist
  • debate champ
  • chess club prodigy

… you may not want to do it for a living.

so here i am …………. telling you people about cool career options you have never seen in school or read about between the pages of a textbook. So here we go :

CELEBRITY CHEF:

Earlier cooking used to be a daily chore or was meant for special occasions only. Today, cooking is an art; a craft to be acquired, that would give one a competitive edge. It is no longer a habit with people to dine out only when the cook does turn up or hen one comes back late from office. But dining out, and that too in style, has become a lifestyle statement- a status elevating activity. The demand for professional chefs is on high scale. If one nurtures the desire to win a million hearts by serving people with good food, a career as a chief is the right answer.

eligibility: The candidate needs to answer 10+2 or H.S or equivalent for taking up career as a chef. This is a basic requirement for taking a diploma course in food craft. In order to opt for a degree course in culinary arts, one should have completed 10+2 in any stream.one-year certificate programmes in food production are offered by several Hotel management institutes.

Salary and remuneration :

As a trainee chef, one can earn Rs.10000 to Rs.15000 per month. An experienced chef can draw a salary of Rs.40000 to Rs.50000 in a five star deluxe hotel. when one reaches the top and becomes an executive chef one’s salary can be anything between Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 2 lakh per month. B-)

VIDEO GAME PROGRAMMER:

The video game market has become a multi-billion dollar industry.Day by Day its popularity is increasing as it targets a vast number of males and females.As this industry continues to grow in popularity, there is an increasing demand for skilled video game designers. And yes , who doesn’t like a career so cool where you get to design games for Play station , Xbox and the Nintendo Wii B-).

Anyone interested in a career in the video game design industry has several avenues to choose from. Someone with good storytelling abilities might opt to become a game writer and compose the actual storyline/text of the game. An artistically-inclined person with an eye for detail would be well-suited to the graphic design aspect of video game creation. Anyone with strong computer programming skills is always in demand.

eligibility :

-A Bachelor’s degree in Game Development or a related field or four years of programming experience – Knowledge of a wide variety of algorithms, data structures, implementation methodologies, and development tools – Good written and oral communication skills

Salary and remuneration :

generally speaking, video game designers can rake in a lot of cash. Income is largely dependent on the chosen career path (writing, programming, or designing for example), location, and experience, but game designers can expect to earn in the range of $40,000 – $75,000 annually and up . Besides you get a sneak peek at the latest games even before they are released ;). you also get to travel a lot with the opportunity to attend events such as E3, a major electronics annual convention.

RADIO JOCKEY:

Radio jockeying, though a non-conventional career, is fast catching up with other traditional jobs. With the advent of FM channels, Radio Jockeying has become a popular career option for many youngsters.so if u love to chatter on and on then this might be the right option for you .However this job has its pros and cons .An RJ also has no holidays. He works every single day and has to enjoy it and not consider his work a chore. When everyone is partying on New Year’s night, he is there helping his listeners to party! So basically it has to be someone who is committed, does not mind long hours, is verbally confident, knows his music, can cope with fame and is always willing to learn. Then, he can easily land extra money spinning jobs like voice lover’s , host live shows, the sky is the limit!

eligibility :

Formal educational qualifications do not hold much value in radio jockeying. Though graduation is considered to be the benchmark, students who have passed 10+2 are also hired by private channels. Usually people under 35 years are preferred for this profession. The personal qualities that are required to become a successful RJ are:

  • Good command over language
  • Extremely good communicative powers
  • Proper voice modulation
  • Good sense of sound and music
  • Good sense of humour
  • Good diction

Salary and remuneration : A beginner in this field can earn something between Rs.7,000 and Rs.15,000 per month. Some channels pay on the basis of the number of programs conducted. For beginners, the pay is low and it ranges between Rs.200-Rs.250, but once you have made your mark, the sky is the limit for you.

GRAPHICS DESIGNER:

Graphic designers produce design solutions to communicate their clients’ messages with high visual impact. .Your job as a graphic designer will give you the ability to showcase your work to the world in any number of ways. Perhaps the most attractive aspect of a career in graphic design is the flexibility that it offers you–just as a great design becomes a part of the space it inhabits, so a great designer can make their interests meld seamlessly with their work. If you love cars, you can hire yourself out to a local auto shop and create a design for their new posters. If you’re a bookworm, then make a living designing book covers, maybe even under your favorite author. If your hobby is redecorating your apartment in your spare time, then collaborate with an interior designer and create a fabulous new line of plates and towels.

eligibility :

  • B.E./ B.Tech/ B.Com/ B.Sc/ others: A Bachelor’s degree in any field from a reputed college is a must for any firm recruiting graphic designers.
  • Associate degree in Graphic design: An Associate degree in Graphic design is a must for getting an entry level job.
  • Bachelor’s degree of Fine arts in graphic design (BFA): A bachelor’s degree which is offered by a large number of recognized institutes is helpful in getting a good job.
  • Several other related courses such as a Diploma in Visual Communication are extremely beneficial.

Salary and remuneration :

The salary received by a graphic designer professional is pretty good though it may vary from one organisation to another organisation. As and when your experience increases in the organisation or in the industry, your salary will also rise.

Beginner (0-1 years of experience)

Monthly: Rs.8,000 to Rs.15,000

Professional ( 2-3 years of experience) :

Monthly: Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 30,000

Graphic designer Manager professional ( 5 and above years of experience)

Monthly: Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 50,000

CREATIVE PHOTOGRAPHER:

Are you the one of those people who’s famous for snapping pictures at parties or who enjoys capturing various shades of life through a lens? If you want to earn a living using your creative side but need more information, then this is the best option for you .

A career in photography offers the following options: ~ Photojournalism ~ Fashion and advertising photography ~ Nature and wildlife photography ~ Event photography ~ Still photography ~ Travel photography If you’ve a passion for photography, there’s no reason why you can’t make it your profession — be wise and practical and go for it!

Simply put, the average high school curriculum was not designed to help you find out what you excel at and the careers options that fit you best.We know how boring and frustrating it can be to sit in classes all day wondering if you will ever use the stuff you are learning.So here were the cool career options that do not depend much on your academics and are also out of the box . enjoy 🙂

    I completely agree with you! I have also earned my bachelors in HOTEL MANAGEMENT which have directly so much helped me in recreating a better life-style.
